Diagnosis And Explanation Of Male Pattern Baldness

It is caused by genetics disposition and hormones. There are three stages of hair cycle called

  • Anagen which is the growing stage and lasts about three to five years.
  • Catagen which is the intermediate stage and lasts about one to two weeks.
  • Telogen which is the resting phase and lasts about three to four months.

The trichologist in Dubai tells that about 85% of the hair are in a growing phase while 15% are not. Baldness in men comes when the hair follicle shrinks; hair sits in a skin called a follicle. When the follicle shrinks, it causes the hair to become fine and short. Normally hair does grow back in a follicle but in men who are balding the follicle fails to grow new hair. Why this occurs? It is more related to the genes and the hormones.

Symptoms of Male Pattern Baldness by a Trichologist

It begins with thinning hairline which proceeds to form an M shape. As the follicle shrinks, it causes the hair to become shorter and thinner. Eventually, the hairs on the crown area also start to thin and form a horseshoe pattern.

Patches of bald areas, breaking of hair shafts or hair loss associated with redness and pain could be caused by other conditions.

Diagnosis

Male pattern hair loss is diagnosed by the appearance and pattern of hair loss. A skin biopsy is done to check the real cause of the hair loss before its treatment. A skin biopsy cannot detect the nutritional deficiencies but may reveal substances such as arsenic and lead. Blood tests are therefore done to detect the nutritional deficiencies.

Treatment

The least expensive approach is using hair pieces or wigs to disguise the hair loss, but they are not permanent and sometimes uncomfortable.

The two main popular FDA proved drugs to treat male pattern baldness are:

  • Minoxidil also known as Rogaine is used in the foam form to apply on the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles. It helps to slow down hair loss, and in some men, it may also lead to the growth of new hair. However, the hair loss comes back when you stop applying it.
  • Finasteride is a prescription pill which inhibits the production of a male hormone known as DHT, It also promotes hair growth and slows down hair loss. But the hair loss returns when the intake of it is stopped.

Hair Transplant

It is a permanent treatment to treat male pattern hair loss. It is a surgical procedure where the healthy hair from the donor area are harvested and transplanted to the benefactor region. There are two most common and practiced hair transplant procedures. These are the same except the extraction process; FUT takes off a linear strip of skin with healthy hair follicles from the back of the scalp whereas in FUE procedure the hair follicles are directly extracted from the scalp. This procedure is tough and tiring but results in less scarring than FUT.

But only a doctor can tell which procedure of hair transplant is suitable for your hair loss condition. However, results are permanent and natural looking results.

Suturing hair pieces to the scalp is not recommended as it causes infections and scars. The use of artificial fibers was banned by the FDA due to the high rate of infection.

Title: Important Things to Know Before you opt for hair transplant (on-page)

As cosmetic surgeries have become increasingly available, gone are the days when you could just wish to have a certain appearance. Baldness is the main thing men would like to change. Hair Transplant is becoming the top most popular procedure to treat baldness.

Hair Transplant?

Best hair transplant in Dubai is a cosmetic surgical permanent procedure for the treatment of baldness. The advancement in hair transplant has also made it possible to treat scarce eyebrows or beard.

The hair follicle is harvested from donor area where the hair is healthy and DHT resistant. These follicles are transplanted to the regions of baldness where they grow naturally like existing hair. The donor area is usually the back of the scalp, and the area is then sutured in a way that the surrounding hair cover it.

If the process of FUT is used, then a strip of skin is removed from the back of the scalp. The strip is cut into pieces and re-grafted into the benefactor region. However, in FUE, individual hair follicle are removed from the scalp directly rather from the strip and placed into the region of the bald area.

This technique avoids scarring and also ensures that the transplanted hair in a natural pattern. Both these procedures are carried out under local anesthesia with an average of 2500 hair follicles being transplanted into the region. The healing time is usually around one to two weeks.

Things to know before the best hair transplant in Dubai

Title: Causes of Alopecia in Men

Alopecia refers to the hair loss from any part of the body due to any reason. There are many types of hair loss from thinning to complete baldness and they may be caused be different reasons. Let’s discuss some of the types of alopecia.

  • Androgenic Alopecia

It is also referred to as male pattern baldness. It is a genetic problem that is inherited from the family and can strike younger as well as older people. It can also occur in women. It causes the hair follicles to become weak and eventually fall out due to an excessive male hormone that surrounds the hair follicles. However, women may undergo this type of hair loss after menopause when the female hormones are fewer.

  • Alopecia Areata

It usually strikes at a younger age and causes temporary bald patches around the scalp. It is the problem of the immune system where the immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. This is an autoimmune problem due to thyroid disease, lupus or anemia. The hair falls in some parts and the new growth is also suppressed and sometimes it may cause complete baldness.

  • Telogen Effluvium

It is associated with stress, pregnancy or use of certain medicines. It makes the hair move into the resting phase for long. This, however, does improve after several moths

  • Scarring Alopecia

It is a form of hair loss where the hairs do not grow in the scarred areas. This type of hair loss is caused by fungus and leaves permanent bald patches.

There are certain causes of hair loss that include allergies, toxins, burns, irritants and infections. Also, some medications such as chemotherapy, radiation, and kidney failure cause the hair to fall out. Trichologist in Abu Dhabi tells sometimes over intake of vitamin A leads to hair loss.

Treatment for Alopecia by trichologist in Abu Dhabi

  • Medications present to encourage hair growths are Minoxidil and Finasteride. It’s sometimes possible to slow down or prevent alopecia than to completely end it.These are not appropriate for everyone who is suffering from hair loss. Hair growth medication works differently for every individual, it is how the body responds to it. They promote hair growth only until they are continuously taken. Once you stop their intake your hair loss starts to come again.

These medications work best for people who have smaller amounts of hair loss. Finasteride is not prescribed for women as told by the trichologist in Abu Dhabi. Minoxidil is taken in pill form while Finasteride is directly applied to the scalp twice daily to see results.

Corticosteroids in the pill form are used to treat severe cases of alopecia while for less severe cases it is injected into the scalp to promote hair growth.

  • Hair Transplant, it is a surgical procedure for hair restoration. The procedure of hair transplant is simple and requires the extraction of hair follicles that are DHT resistant to be planted to the areas of the scalp where required.

The transplanted hair grow in a similar way as the existing hair. The growth can be seen after two months. The hair that is transplanted are permanent but you need to consult the doctor before you decide you want to opt for hair transplant.

Hair loss is a cosmetic damage. It is mostly believed that hair loss is the after effect of any disease, so it’s better to find the root cause before the treatment. Medical tests and full discussion with the trichologist in Abu Dhabi can help you fight it and family history will help the hair doctor decide what type of alopecia you are suffering from which is done by a scalp biopsy.

These hair follicles that are extracted from the strip are transplanted into the bald area of the scalp.

What to Do About Your Thinning Eyebrows

Title: What to Do about Your Thinning Eyebrows (off-page)

Eyebrows are of great cosmetic importance. Loss of eyebrows can be distressing. The term “madarosis’’ is referred to as hair loss. It is derived from the Greek word “madoras’’ meaning bald. Loss of eyebrows can be due to nutrient deficiency, auto-immune disorder or response to medication such as chemotherapy.

  • Five ways to restore the thickness of eyebrows
  1.  Castor Oil: It is one the effective remedy to boost the growth of hair and contains all the nutrients that contribute to stimulating the growth. Also, it resists any microorganisms that slow down the growth process.

How can it be used? You can soak a cotton ball in castor oil and apply it on your eyebrows. Leave it for thirty minutes and afterward, wash it with lukewarm water.

  1. Coconut Oil: It contains proteins, iron, and the vitamins to promote thick eyebrows and makes your eyebrows darker.

How can it be used? Put few drops of coconut oil on your finger tips and apply on the eyebrows. Let it remain overnight and wash it off with Luke warm water the next day.

  1. Vitamin D: Eat foods containing vitamin D. It will make the eyebrows and eyelashes stronger and combat with the harmful effects of the chemicals used in mascara and eyeliner.

Cheese, egg yolks, and fatty fish are rich in vitamin D. Consume these to prevent the deficiency of vitamin D that can cause loss of hair.

  1. Avoid Over Plucking: It is the most common cause of loss of eyebrows. Over-plucking results in ingrown hairs, infections and follicle damage.

Ingrown hairs are a common effect of over plucking. When the brow hair breaks it causes the hair to grow underneath the skin creating a red bump. Infection may also occur if bacteria is trapped with hair. In the case of infection, consult a doctor and do not pick at the skin.

Over plucking leaves the skin pores open, making it prone to the harmful elements.

Follicle damage is caused by over plucking making a permanent hair loss.

These all cause the eyebrows to look unattractive, sparse and thin.

Some people use brow powder and pencils to mimic the natural look of eyebrows. But it depends on how the strokes are made to create a natural look. Avoid over plucking along the natural brow line.

  1. Eyebrow hair transplant in Dubai: The procedure uses hair from the sides of the scalp which is extracted and transplanted into the eyebrow. The important factor is to maintain the angle and direction of hair growth while performing the eyebrow hair transplant procedure.

The transplanted hair shed, but it’s normal. The new hair grows in the region of transplanted hair. They need to be trimmed after some time to maintain the desired look.

No downtime associated with eyebrow hair transplant in Dubai. There is no aftercare required or any risk of scarring. Some prescriptions are provided to prevent the risk of infection in the transplanted region.

Title: Androgenetic Alopecia – A Comprehensive Guide (off-page)

Androgenetic Alopecia – this is usually caused by the genetics. This type of hair loss is seen both in men and women. In men, this condition is known as male pattern hair loss while in women it’s called female pattern hair loss.

The main devastating thing about Androgenetic Alopecia is that it is the permanent form of hair loss. The symptoms of Androgenetic alopecia are a continuous dispersal of the hair on the scalp.

In men, this type of hair loss usually causes baldness in the areas of crown and temple. It is not a patchy form of hair loss. While in women it leads to receding hairline with the continual dispersal of hair throughout the scalp.

Alopecia Treatment in Dubai

To fight or reduce the symptoms of Androgenetic alopecia you need to cure the cause of it. It is not possible to fight the genetic makeup but androgens and inflammation can be targeted to stimulate new hair growth.

  • Rogaine is a medical treatment to prevent the androgens from attacking the hair follicles. Minoxidil is not recommended to the women and stops working shortly after you stop its intake. Finasteride is also FDA approved medication which helps fight DHT or androgens.

  • Growth stimulators such as biotin supplements help promote amino acids which are building blocks of hair.

Rosemary and Peppermint oil which are known as essential oils are also used to stimulate hair growth. They can be mixed with Coconut or Olive oil to be used for scalp massages which increase the blood circulation in the scalp.

Green tea is another natural treatment to fight androgens and inflammation in the scalp. It has been found that green tea is an active blocker of DHT which causes the hair to become weak and fall out.

  • Surgical procedure for the alopecia treatment in Dubai, all the medicines and natural treatments mentioned above cannot completely fight this type of hair loss but however can greatly slow down the process of balding. Surgical treatment is the only treatment that can help you restore the hair permanently. The restored hair are natural as the existing hair because they are extracted from the part of the scalp that has healthy hair follicles.

The process of the hair transplant is simple and permanent. Some people wear wigs who suffer from Androgenetic alopecia. But they are not permanent and it gets very difficult to maintain them.

Hair transplant process uses your own hair that is usually extracted from the back of the scalp to be transplanted to the areas of the scalp which require hair. The procedure starts with injecting local anesthesia into the scalp. When extraction of hair follicles is completed the surgeon then injects the anesthesia into the benefactor area of the scalp where the hair follicles are inserted. The transplanted hair fall out after a two weeks, but new hairs grow in the area with a full growth seen in about nine months.

The surgeon and the team assure your comfort before the procedure of alopecia treatment in Dubai is started. Getting the best surgeon for your treatment is a tough decision as largely the success of the hair transplant depends on the skills and expertise of the surgeon.

Do your thorough search and find the surgeon who can guide you properly on the process of hair transplant. Aware you of the results that can be achieved and your eligibility for the specific type of hair transplant technique that you want to get done.

Body Hair Transplant

Body hair transplant is a procedure designed to restore hair on the chest, abdomen, axilla or any other body part which requires hair to be transplanted or thicken the density of the hair in that area. The loss of hair could be due to genetics, surgery scar repair, laser hair removal, electrolysis or use of any medication that caused overall body hair loss.

Hair makes a man look masculine and powerful. Some patients go for a thin filling while others may want to have a thicker density of hair on the chest and abdomen area.

  • Body Hairs as Donor Hairs

Sometimes body hairs are used as donor’s hairs to provide hairs to the required area. But before we proceed, do you know what donor’s hairs are? Donor’s hairs are the hairs that are extracted through hair transplant techniques to be inserted into areas where there is no or thin hair growth.

But for body hairs to be used as donor hairs on the scalp there are certain considerations that you need to know of, these are:

  • Extraction of the hair follicles from the body and what hair transplant technique would be suitable?
  • The growth cycle of the body hairs is different from the growth cycle of the scalp hair.
  • The compatibility, are body hair of the same color and texture as the scalp hair, so they are suitable enough to be transplanted to the scalp.

Transplantation of Body Hairs

In some patient’s body hair are transplanted to the scalp because of no or limited donor hair available from the scalp due to multiple hair transplant sessions. The technique used to transplant body hairs is FUE, body hair transplant in Dubai is a very challenging and a refined procedure.

Why is it challenging?

Because of the growth angle of hairs and compatibility it sometimes gets tough, and in some patients, the process of extraction of body hairs for a body hair transplant in Dubai is also difficult.

They can also be transplanted to areas of the scar and burns where the hair growth has stopped.

  • Donor Hairs Transplanted to the Body

Donor hair come from the scalp. The transplanted hair grows the same way as on the scalp and is somewhat of the same characteristics like body hair. However, after some time they need to be trimmed.

The transplanted hair on the body is natural and permanent. The important factors to taken into consideration for a body hair transplant in Dubai are:

  • The extraction of grafts.
  • The placement of grafts in the angle of growth of hairs.
  • The usage of dissected grafts to the small incisions as to reduce the scarring.

Also, the distribution of gray hairs in the area where transplantation is required is considered as to make the transplant look natural and more even.

But it is also important to consider that in the future these transplanted hairs to the body cannot be used as donor hairs for the scalp to treat any future pattern hair loss, thus meaning fewer donor hairs available.

Procedure of the Body Hair Transplant

The procedure is simple and requires almost 200 to 3400 grafts as per the requirement. The procedure is performed under mild anesthesia to make the patient feel no pain. The duration of the procedure is four to eight hours long. The procedure can be uncomfortable for some patients during transplantation of hairs on the chest.

After the process of transplantation tiny crust can and redness around the transplanted hair could be seen. After a week the patients can carry out normal activities. The sutures placed at the donor area are dissolvable so no need to visit the clinic again for the suture removal.

The transplanted hair fall out and regrow in two months’ time with full growth visible in nine months’ time. No scarring can be found due to the technique of FUE.

Hair loss will happen after three months of the incident which means the resting phase is for about three months.

  • Chronic Telogen Effluvium

It is same as Telogen Effluvium; the main difference is that the hair loss caused by this is prolonged. Why is it prolonged? Hair Loss Treatment in Abu Dhabi

  •  What is the cause of the Hair Loss

Before any treatment could be started it is the first step to knowing the cause so that it could be treated efficiently.

Hair loss is frequently caused by the lack of nutrients amongst other problems such as stress or thyroid. Firstly it is important to ensure that the hair follicles are receiving as much blood as possible.

  • Medications

Minoxidil is the medical hair loss treatment in Abu Dhabi to fight hair loss. It works by allowing more blood to reach the hair follicles on the area where it is applied. Increasing the blood supply in the area means allowing the nutrients to reach the hair follicles resulting in prevention of hair loss.

Hair Vitalics is another product that contains saw palmetto which inhibits the formation of DHT. What is DHT? It is a powerful metabolite of the body which causes the hair follicles to shrink and result in hair loss.

  • Laser Comb

It is a low power laser comb that promotes the growth of hair follicles. It provides energy to the cells of the hair follicles which in result thicken the existing hair and promote hair loss stabilization.

  • Hair Transplant

The safe and permanent hair loss treatment in Abu Dhabi is hair transplant. It is a surgical procedure where the hair follicles that are healthy and resistant to DHT are extracted and planted to the bad areas. The transplanted hair begin to grow in two months, and full growth can be seen in nine months’ time. They grow similarly as existing hairs. The transplanted hair can be dyed and hair styled as normal hair. The results are natural and add to the confidence.

Children’s Hair Loss – Types of Hair Loss in Infants and Children

Hair loss is not just the problem of an adult. Hair loss in children is frightening and is a concern for the child and the parent both.

The majority of the children who face hair loss are due to:

  • Tinea Capitis

It is a common hair loss disease seen in children. It is also called “Ring Worm’’ due to the scaly patches that forms due to this. The patches are mostly round. The results are breakage of hair making it look like black dots on the scalp.

Diagnosis of it is done on the basis of the appearance of the patches on the scalp. A wood lamp test, where the ultraviolet lights are shined on the patches to check the presence of any fungal infection.

For the treatment, Tinea capitis is treated with an antifungal such as griseofulvin for about eight weeks. Also, Nizoral shampoo is recommended for cleansing the scalp. Both the antifungal and shampoo are suggested to be used together for eight weeks for successful treatment.

  • Alopecia Areata

It is caused by the attack of the immune system on the hair follicles. It forms round, oval patches of hair loss which can appear overnight and sometimes in few days. The patches are not scaly, and the hair is not broken like Tinea Capitis.

With the right treatment, the sufferer can have all the hair back in about a year’s time. If not treated properly and at right time it could lead to Alopecia Totalis which is the loss of hair on the whole scalp and in some children the condition can get worse where they can lose the hair from all over the body is known as the disease Alopecia Universalis.

Alopecia Areata is determined by the examination of the patches on the scalp. The patches are smooth and produce tingling effect. The margins of the lesion are checked and if the hair is easily pulled out means the lesion is active and further hair loss could be expected.

Sadly there is no FDA treatment for alopecia areata, but there are some off-label drugs for the treatment of it. It is an unpredictable disease, even with the cure of the patches it cannot be assured that further patches would occur neither the medications promise the prevention of further patches.

  • Endocrine

Some people face hair loss due to hypothyroidism in which the thyroid is underactive to regulate the metabolism which in turn causes hair loss.

The diagnosis of hypothyroidism is done by taking blood tests which show abnormal levels of the two hormones called T4 and TSH. Treatment for hypothyroidism depends on a number of factors such as the overall health and medical history of the patient, the extent of the hair loss and expectation on the course of the disease.

  •  Telogen Effluvium

It is caused by some extreme stress which affects the cycle of hair growth. It can be caused by severe fever, surgery or an uneventful event.

There is no diagnosis for it, however, once the stress is over the hair start to regrow and develop.

  • Nutrients

Sometimes hair loss in children is caused by the deficiencies of certain nutrients such as vitamins, iron or zinc.

Vitamin H – It is important for the body as it converts the carbohydrates into glucose to fuel the body.

Zinc – It supports the growth and development as well as supports various aspects of the metabolism.

An overdose of Vitamin A can also cause the loss of hair. A proper balanced diet is a key to healthy body and hair.
